UK premiere of “For a Look or a Touch”, staged with touching simplicity by Sandra Martinović…”           Anna Picard, The Independent 
Croatian Director, Sandra Martinović, graduated as a mezzo-soprano with distinction from the Zagreb Academy of Music and London’s Royal College of Music.  In the 2010/2011 season, Sandra was assistant director to Emma Rivlin in Rossini’s Cinderella for Opera Up Close. She was also assistant director on Ullmann’s The Emperor of Atlantis with new opera company Dioneo at the Cello Factory and subsequent revival at Grimeborne Festival, Arcola Theatre.  

In 2010, Sandra co-founded and became co-artistic director of Fusebox Productions, a London-based theatre company.   In it’s first season, Sandra was creative producer for an adaptation of Pushkin’s Queen of Spades, and marked her directorial debut at London’s Kings Head Theatre in the UK Premiere of Jake Heggie’s chamber opera For a Look or a Touch featuring baritone Duncan Rock. This was a double bill performance with An American Songbook, a semi-staged selection of Bolcolm and Rodney-Bennett songs with bass Jonathan Lemalu and pianist Michael Hampton. 
In 2012, Sandra assisted Jean-Claude Auvray in a new production of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Royal College of Music, directed a highly successful season of Telemann’s Pimpinone for the Woodhouse Music Festival, was assistant director to Peter Watson in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Co Opera Co, assisted James Conway in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea for RCM’s International Opera School, and assisted John Copley in staged scenes from opera including Handel’s Giulio Cesare, Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, Puccini’s La Boheme and Britten’s Owen Wingrave at London’s Royal Academy of Music. 

Her work continued with John Copley, assisting him on his iconic production of Puccini’s La Boheme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. 

The 2013 seasons saw Sandra assisting John Fulljames on David Bruce’s The Firework- Maker’s Daughter, based on the book by Philip Pullman at ROH, assistant director to John Copley in staged opera scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Britten’s Albert Herring and Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment (RCM), and assistant director to Paul Higgins on Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at Holland Park Opera. 
Last season Sandra assisted John Ramster on scenes from Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte and Don Giovanni,  Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Britten’s Albert Herring, Bellini’s Capuleti e i Montecchi and Massenet’s Werther at the Royal Academy of Music. The seasons highlight was her European debuts, assisting Vincent Boussard on Weill’s Mahagonny at the Staatsoper Berlin and Jasmina Hadziahmetovic on Lange’s Das Gespenst von Canterville at the Komische Oper in Berlin. 

This year Sandra observed Peter Sellars on The Indian Queen at English National Opera and Rolando Vilazón on La Rondine at Deutsche Oper Berlin. 

Future engagements include directing her own production of La Bohème at Teatro Jovellanos in Gijón for the International Opera School.
